Waltham Stamp Club Newsletter
This newsletter is written periodically to bring club members up to date on WSC activities and other philatelic matters.
Below is a compilation of information, which I hope you will find of interest:
FALL 2003 ACTIVITIES
Our fall schedule has been a busy one. Guest speakers included our own exhibit judge "extraordinaire" and Prexy specialist, Jeff Shapiro and Steve Waxer, who gave a compelling presentation on "selling on the internet".
We presented an APS slide show on the early history of airmail. We also had our usual assortment of club auctions, phlea markets and pre-WALPEX related activities.
A small group of our members attended the MegaShow in New York where 125 dealers from all over the world were present.
We conclude 2003 with our pre-holiday party including the ever-popular "Yankee swap"
WALPEX 2003
WALPEX 2003 was our most financially successful show in recent memory. Our $1600+ profit will enable us to cover our rent expense at the museum, buy a new set of 2004 Scott catalogs and cover a small portion of our other expenses.
We had a record number of first time WALPEX attendees (140), twice the number of children who visited our youth room in 2002 and we had our largest and most diverse contingency of dealers(25 dealers from 6 states).
Show attendees came from as far away as Washington State in the US and we even had one visitor from Switzerland.
Our exhibit area was filled and very well received and our show covers were so popular that we're still receiving orders.
For additional show details please visit our WALPEX website at www.nefed.org/waltham/walpex2003.htm
WINTER/SPRING SCHEDULE
The schedule for January through August 2004 will be published shortly.
In addition to our club auctions and phlea markets, we will have three guest speakers, an APS slide show, and new workshops on "Fakes, Forgeries and Alterations", "Stamp Grading" and "Internet Philately".
Also, please reserve the evening of May 4th for our annual meeting/banquet.
