Minutes of the meeting of
January 6, 2009
President
Shufrin opened the meeting at 8:03 with 30 in attendance.
The
Treasurer’s report showed a balance including an escrow.The
Treasurer also provided a detailed report of WALPEX revenue and expenses for
the past three years. He indicated that
the net income for the last show was the highest on record.
The
Minutes of the meeting of December 16, 2008 were approved.
A
second reading was made for applicants Cranberg and Kruskall and they were declared members.
Old
Business
The Club, working with the Museum, is
planning a bus trip to the Megashow on Saturday March
7th.
The Club is planning to recognize long
term WALPEX attendees at the 2009 show.
The
next meeting will feature a different kind of “show and tell” with members
preparing a small exhibit of one of their collecting interests.
Museum news: An April event about the
Holocaust will include a philatelic exhibit, video presentation, guest speaker,
and reception.
New
Business
The President asked for suggestions about
equipment that the club might buy. UV lamps and watermark detectors were
mentioned and the President asked members to suggest more things.
The
meeting closed at 8:27 and was followed by a 115 lot auction ably and
knowledgeably conducted by George Norton. There were periods of intense
competition for favored items. Winning bids ranged from 25 cents to 45 dollars.
Items included a compact UV lamp and a box of 158 commercially prepared
commemorative covers cacheted with protected mint
stamps and postmarked with an associated theme.
