Minutes of the meeting of November 3, 2009

 

President Shufrin opened the meeting at 8:03 with 37 in attendance.

 

Treasurer Mark Butterline reported a positive balance with a few bills outstanding.

 

The Minutes of the meeting of October 20, 2009 were approved.

WALPEX 2009

     Jim Warner reported that more than 100 show covers were sold as well as some of the custom stamps.

     Jack Miller said that there was a tie for the most popular of the exhibits between Mark Butterline’s Wheelbarrows and Jeff Shapiro’s Broadway.

     Bruce Bolduc noted that 19 youth attended and he asked for volunteers to help at the next WALPEX.

     Chris Brouady said the dealers were happy.

     Jim Nalbandian reported that the Phish Bowl sold out on both days.

     President Norm Shufrin offered his thanks to the above persons as well as all those club members who helped at the show and he gave the following statistics: 564 attendees, 112 new attendees, 69 who did not receive invitations, and 3 dealers who came as customers.

     The club members gave Norm a rousing round of applause for his leadership of WALPEX 2009.

 

Old Business

     Mike Morris showed the recently purchased microscope equipment.

     The brunch meeting is scheduled for the 21st featuring “Gems from the vault” by George Norton.

     James Hencke has APS circuit books for member’s perusal.

 

New Business

     It was unanimously voted to donate $100 to the Museum and $100 to the Federation’s youth program.                                                                                                     

     A first reading was made for applicant George Cooley.

 

The meeting closed at 8:39 and was followed by a 161 lot auction ably conducted by Steve Waxer. Included in the auction was lot 117 which consisted of 926 stamped envelopes ranging in franking from  6 cents to 12 cents: it did not sell.
