The meeting closed at 8:13 and was followed by an illustrated talk by long time member and stamp dealer Bob Borden. He appeared in full Union Army dress and showed us covers from soldiers letters. These covers were limited to those of the 62 Massachusetts regiments, including several all black units, involved in the Civil War. Many of these covers had attractive cachets and a number contained the original letters. Bob reported that the Grand Army of the Republic started with 409,000 members the last of whom died in 1956. Bob was widely applauded for his talk and he commented that he is still awaiting the $10 he was promised if he showed up in uniform.
