Minutes of the meeting of
April 21, 2009
President
Shufrin opened the meeting at 8:00 with 30 in attendance. He welcomed visitors
Erica Tauber and Dr. Kiran
from
Treasurer
Mark Butterline reported a positive balance including
an escrow, and he reminded members that dues are due.
The
minutes of the meeting of April 4, 2009 were approved.
In
terms of member welfare it was reported that Dan Ladd is ailing with test
results expected in a few days.
Old
Business
The Federation show is coming up on May
1thru 3 and volunteers are sought.
The Annual Meeting and Banquet is on May 5
and members are urged to sign up.
Mike Morris presented his findings on
Microscopy with the aid of a video presentation showing the results of his
tests of a Dino Light system. Images of stamps with normal lighting, filters
and side light illustrated some of the things that can be done.
New
Business
James Hencke is
selling his father’s collection for the benefit of the Boy Scouts and invited
members to look at the items in the collection.
The Advisory committee is planning to
examine the Treasurer’s accounts.
Steven Tauber
showed the results of his tests of some new hinges that showed no improvement
over others.
Museum news: The Museum is seeking more
volunteers.
WALPEX Committee will meet soon.
The
meeting closed at 8:41 and was followed by a Discussion of exhibiting led by
Jeff Shapiro with the following points:

The exhibit must tell a story
Knowledge is important
Exhibit for self or for judges?
An APS judging manual is available for
$9.95
How to Exhibit is a book by Randy Neill et
al for $29.95
Changes include allowing first day covers
and picture post cards.
