The meeting closed at 8:46 and was followed by an illustrated talk by Jeff Shapiro about the German inflationary period that occurred after the first world war. He used the international post card rates to trace this inflation which saw the rate increase from 0.1 mark to 192,000,000,000 marks. His collection has postcards with franking covering the more than 20 rates that were in place during the inflation.  He showed images of many of the cards. He sought cards mailed to unusual destinations as he developed his collection and said that a long sought for example of a particular rate was finally found in a dealer’s dollar box. He answered many questions and was widely applauded for his presentation.
