Minutes of the meeting of
September 1, 2009
President
Shufrin opened the meeting at 8:00 with 30 in attendance.
Treasurer
Mark Butterline reported a positive balance.
The
Minutes of the meeting of June 16, 2009 were approved with minor changes.
The
President reported the passing of long time member Dan Ladd and he read a note
from Dan that thanked the club for the honorary membership that the club
awarded him.
The
President also reported that member Mike Edwards has a brain tumor.
Old
Business
Equipment
purchases remain to be finalized.
WALPEX
rental furniture and school are now under contract. One table remains open and
seven vendors are on the waiting list. Jack Miller has 24 frames available for
exhibits by members.
New
Business
It
was voted to make a donation to the Museum of $50 in memory of Dan Ladd.
Steve
Tauber outlined the plan for a fall competition
wherein each competitor is given a packet of 25 unrelated stamps and the object
is to make an exhibit that shows order.
The
meeting closed at 8:18 and was followed by a 237 lot auction. There was
vigorous bidding for the 16 lots offered by the Museum including a winning bid
by Bruce Bolduc of $3 for a large box of recent on paper US, exceeding by a
factor of three what he paid for a similar box at the last auction. The auction
included a box of 1000 small windowed envelopes and a pint sized paper cutter.
The auction was conducted in a timely manner by Steve Waxer.
For
the record, the July 21 meeting had 14 in attendance, some of them preparing
bourse book pages and the August 18 meeting was a phlea
market with considerable activity by the 30 in attendance.
