Minutes of the meeting of February 17, 2009

 

President Shufrin opened the meeting at 8:06 with 22 in attendance.

 

Visitor Dr.Kiran, from India, was introduced and invited to participate in the meeting.

 

The Treasurer’s report showed a balance and an escrow. The Treasurer reminded the members that dues are due.

 

The minutes of the meeting of January 20, 2009 were approved.

 

Old Business

     Mike Morris reported on his study of Microscopes that might be useful to the Club  noting how color and Polaroid filters can enhance performance.  Mike said he is planning to give an illustrated talk about microscopy at the next meeting.

     Comments about the new format for show-and-tell were generally positive and that format will probably be used next time.

     A bus trip to the April Megashow is planned and members are asked for commitments to assure that enough sign up to support a 40 passenger bus.

     WALPEX 2009 is looking for a theme and Darwin is being considered.

     Spellman Museum news: Bazaar on February 28, fund raiser on March 23, and Holocaust program on April 23 featuring a video, exhibits, and speaker.

 

New Bisiness

     The Museum has a new exhibit featuring US Presidents.

     George Norton and Peter Lenk have made a new discovery of a reentry on a letter that George had shown at the last meeting.

     Stephen Tauber asked members to consider giving stamps to the Lions Club program for veterans at:

     The next meeting will feature a talk by Bob Borden.

 

The meeting closed at 8:50 and was followed by a 24-part trivia quiz featuring such things as a misrepresented mountain on a stamp. Mark Butterline and Jeff Brigham tied as winners with 12 correct answers.
