Minutes of the meeting of September 16, 2008

 

President Shufrin opened the meeting at 8:01 with 22 in attendance.

 

The Treasurer’s report showed a positive balance including escrow.

 

The Minutes of the meeting of September 2, 2008 were approved.

 

A second reading was made for Donna Wilson of Salem and Jonathan Stromberg of Quincy and they were welcomed into membership.

 

Old Business

     James Hencke pleaded for more bourse books from members.

     In regard to delinquent members, the President will recommend to the Advisory Board that they be dropped from membership.

     WALPEX 2008 – a one third page ad will appear in Linn’s – there is still some space for exhibits – dealer tables are sold out.

     Spellman Museum – The “Meet the Olympians” evening was a great success.

 

New Business

     Scavenger hunt information will be handed out at the October 7th meeting.

     Spellman Museum – October 25th will be Family Day – Display cases are coming from the Museum of Science and will fill a need.

 

The meeting closed at 8:29 and was followed by an 8 part Show and Tell.

     Norm Shufrin showed the two panes of the Legends of the West, the original and the corrected one.

     Dana Booth showed old post cards including one from Julia Ward Howe about a meeting.

     Dave Libby demonstrated a way of removing non soakable stamps using Bestine and talc.

     Jean Lenk showed her exhibit of the Nativity Story as told with stamps.

     Peter Lenk showed a number of covers from hotels where he had stayed and that had later suffered destruction or major damage.

     George Norton showed some covers from Sweden, used by the armed forces and including under the flap a stamp to be used to respond to the writer.

     James Hencke showed his three albums of Iberia and noted many Spanish stamps not in Scott catalogs.

     Steve Tauber told of his visit to Mexico for an eclipse and how he got eclipse stamps. He also showed a picture post card depicting a park in Springfield that showed a park bench at which he proposed to his now wife.
