Minutes of the meeting of September 15, 2009
President Shufrin opened the meeting at 8:03 with 18 in attendance.
There was no treasurer’s report.
The Minutes of the meeting of September 1, 2009 were approved.
Members’ Welfare
Mike Edwards has passed away. Mike was often a spirited auctioneer for the club.
Jim Reynolds continues to survive a brain tumor.
Donna Wilson has moved and has dropped her membership.
Old Business
WALPEX- all dealer tables are sold and 5 dealers remain on a waiting list. Exhibit frames are still available for members.
Equipment purchase- remains on hold.
New Business
The working session on preparing bourse books and pages will be held on Tuesday September 29. The regular bourse books will be available at this session.
James Hencke asked for a show of interest in having APS bourses books made available.
It was voted to make a donation of $50 to the Museum in memory of Mike Edwards.
It was noted that a first day cover ceremony will take place at Brandeis University on September 24, 2009.
The meeting closed at 8:47 and was followed by a “show and tell” as follows:
Chris Brouady: He showed his 4 inch thick world wide album that he worked on when he was 8 to 13 years old.
Jean Lenk; An exhibit called “the ten commandments” illustrated with stamps.
Peter Lenk: A book for flyspecking all Bureau Issues.
Mike Morris: He is preparing an exhibit using stamps to trace a Harry Dewint book on a saga.
Juris Raudsep: A book on Latvia stamps for which he was asked to write a review.
Steve Tauber: recited three recent bits of luck: winning a WALPEX door prize, finding a Phish bowl prize, and winning a stamp on Stamp Wants. Com.
Bill Maxwell: a recent find on line of a July 9, 1840 cover with a penny black stamp.
James Hencke: a download of an elegant album in full color and into which he has begun to put stamps that are hard to distinguish from the album illustrations.
Norm Shufrin: A 1959 postcard franked with a three cent stamp from the 1880’s
