The meeting closed at 10:55 and was
followed by the continuation of the excellent DVD documentary on Holocaust mail
prepared by the Philatelic Foundation. As an introduction to the subject Museum
Curator, George Norton, showed several frames of material from the museum
relating to underground mail that Polish prisoners had managed to make despite
the very harsh conditions imposed by the Nazis.
The material shown is very rare and very valuable and for the most part
shows stamps manufactured clandestinely.
The DVD showed cards and letters from
concentration, slave labor, and death camps and again showed the scourge of
Nazi inhumanity. In the later part cards and letters reflected post war
attempts to reunite survivors and to learn the fate of others.
