Minutes of the meeting of February 19, 2008

 

President Shufrin opened the meeting at 8:02 with 22 in attendance.

 

The Treasurer’s report showed a positive as well as an escrow.

 

The minutes of the meeting of February 5, 2008 were approved.

 

A second reading was had for Mary Gorman and she was welcomed into membership.

 

Old Business

     James Hencke, our bourse manager, reported that Frank Fernandez, the overall bourse book manager, will be retiring and a replacement is needed. Anyone interested in this opportunity should contact James.

     Steve Tauber provided a follow-up to the Mystery Night having found identification of his Italian overprint, it having resulted from Italian occupation of Montenegro.

     Larry Cohen’s exhibit, the “Two Cent Harding”, won at WALPEX 2007 and he received a $25 gift certificate for the Museum Store.

     A second vote to make Marcia Storkelson a life member was unanimously approved and she is now a Life Member.

 

New Business

     Len Andexler reported that he had heard from a reliable source that no more official stamps will be issued.

     Peter Lenk reported that he has found a new reentrant and showed an enlarged image of the stamp.

     The members were reminded that the Annual Meeting and Banquet will be May 6th at the Dandelion Green.

     The Museum’s Bazaar will be on March 1st.

     The next meeting will feature “Secrets and Wonders of the Museum Vault” by George Norton.

 

The meeting closed at 8:35 and was followed by a presentation overseen by Chris Brouady of Philatelic web sites and he used his computer and a projector to take the audience to a sampling of the sites including those from his list as well a several suggested by members. Included in the tour were the following: Spellman Museum, Century Stamps, Subway, Champion Stamp Supply, Amos Advantage, Downeast Stamps, Alneum, Robert Siegel, Stamps Wants, Swedish Tiger, PSE, 1847USA, Virtual Stamp Club, Just4stamps, Freaky Stamp, and Perfins. President Shufrin plans to send a complete list of the sites to members.
