The meeting closed at 8:23 and was followed by “show and tell”
James Hencke showed how Scotch Removable Tape is now often used to mount stamps, particularly in bourse books, and he provided each member with a stamp mounted in that way. He reported that some claim that mint never hinged stamps mounted in this way remain mint never hinged. He reported that stamps so mounted in 4 year old bourse books show no ill effects. He had a few rolls of tape for sale to members. James cautioned that he only considered using this tape for stamps of nominal value, and that it had no official approval as a philatelic material. The handout suggested it only be used on mint gummed stamps, as it would create thins on many paper types of used stamps if not protected by the gummed layer.
Don Vickers passed around a attractive first day cover he bought at the Wayside Inn.
The highlight of Steve Tauber’s show was a very rare and unusual stamp, it being one used by the German Government in the so called submarine mail service used in WW2. It was one of only 500 issued.
Dave Libby was given a package of philatelic material from a 92 year old member the BPS. Dave showed us thousands of mint airmail stamps that were in the package including 40p, 10p, 3Mark and 5 Mark values.
Norm Shufrin showed a number of stamps that George Norton had selected from South American Countries that showed maps each with a different version of boundaries between countries.
Norm also showed his new collecting area of very affordable post cards from early 20th century that have wrong or unusual frankings.
